How to grow your business without Instagram

With the Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp ‘blackout’ last week, we found some mild (?) panic, a little relief and a good reminder that we cannot keep all our biz eggs in one Zuckerberg basket.

You all know that I think IG is an amazing tool to build a business and I have spent over half a decade refining the craft. However, it is not the only tool in my tool belt.

So how can you grow your business with using Instagram? Below are 6 other avenues for you to explore!

Market content on other social platforms

Instagram is not the only social media platform at our disposal. And while, Facebook is also great - following the latest crash, I want to give you folks some other options which are sometimes overlooked.

  • Pinterest - Not just for your dream house mood board

  • Twitter - A very immediate platform, with great shareability

  • TikTok - Better video options than Reels IMO

  • YouTube - Great for longer form video content, educational and creative

  • Clubhouse - Excellent for coaches

Create a blog

Hello! It’s me!

A blog may feel slightly old school, but thanks to Search Engine Optimization and Google, writing blogs is a great way to get your content out to people. Got a Q? How do I grow my business with out Instagram? Google pls help!

Make sure to research your keywords and be strategic with your titles, subtitles and content. They are really versatile, so you can have fun with them and be educational as well.

Grow your mailing list

Having a mailing list is amazing and I would argue essential. Why you ask? Because you own it.

People check there inbox on average about 15 times a day. So it is an amazing way to stay in touch with people. Once a week, bi-weekly, once a month - that’s up to you. Just remember that newsletter aren’t just for selling - they are NEWSletters. So make sure that you are including content that is serving people and make sure that there is an exclusive incentive for people to sign up, such as a PDF download, a guided meditation, or template.

Collaborate and network

Collaborating is by far the most effective way I have grown by business outside of Instagram in the past 16 months. It could be having a guest on a live, speaking on someones podcast, or running a joint workshop. And remember, don’t just collaborate with people who are in your industry. Collaborate with a local cafe to use their space, collaborate with an artist, or with brands that align with your ethos.. The options are honestly endless and it’s amazing working with other people!

Networking ties into this nicely. You get talking to people - you share what your up to - they talk to other people. And if they say become a customer and client of yours, they will be likely to recommend you to their friends, co-workers, or neighbours!

Use advertising

Using advertising is not something I have used a lot of in my business, however I know frommarket research, friends and others that this can be highly effective. Advertising works in different ways for different businesses, and also comes with a budget.

But for starting off, try flyering or putting up posters. These are excellent and relatively low cost way to advertise your business and/or offering, especially when you are looking to grow locally.

Work to combine the above

This 6th point is here to remind you that it takes time and work to grow your business, and using a combination of different strategies and platforms will really help. However, you don’t need to run out and write a blog and record a podcast while running down the High Street dropping of flyers. You can slowly work on a longer term plan that will allow you to expand your reach in a way that doesn’t feel overwhelming and that work specifically for YOU and YOUR BUSINESS.
