6 Ways to Make Your IG Stories More Engaging
6 Ways to Make Your IG Stories More Engaging
IG stories are an amazing way to create an engaged relationship with the community you're building and nourishing online. They are a space in which you can create real connection between you and your viewers, really get your message across, build your following, get creative and have some fun along the way.
These tips come from things that I see all time - and am guilty of myself, no judgement - and have pointers I have tried and tested along the way. Follow them and I can guarantee you will start seeing more people watching and engaging with your stories!
//01
Stop opening with ‘Hi Guys!!’
Cutting the crap and getting straight to it doesn’t mean that aren’t being friendly or welcoming. However people decide with in the first few moments whether they want to continue watching a story or a video. Instead of a ‘Just jumping on here to say…’ state your purpose clearly and show up with intention.
Try opening with a question instead. “Do you want to learn about X, Y or Z?” or “Have you ever… ?” By opening with a question you instantly and directly engage the viewer and raise their stake in what you have to say!
//02
Use subtitles
Subtitles are incredibly important. Not only do only 80% of people watch stories on mute, not using subtitles excludes people who are hard of hearing or deaf.
There are loads of great apps such as Veme.ly and Clipomatic that you can use that instantly create easy to read subtitles for you. You can also just write some short captions with your story text feature!
//03
Speak directly to your ideal client
Speak as though you are speaking to one person. Much like opening with a question, speaking as if you are talking to one person makes people feel heard and listened to. When you feel spoken to, you are far more likely to listen - and come back for more!
Being able to really tailor what you are saying to an imagined individual - ie. your ideal client! - also means that you are super clear on your intentions and offering.

Use polls
Incorporating questions and other interactive elements are super easy and effective ways to let your viewers know that they are being heard. They can also really help you understand what people want from your content and can help build some anticipation about what’s to come!
//05
Don’t make it about you
Don’t distract from the purpose or message of your story. It is not about you, it’s not about how your hair looks, or whether you get all the words right, or whether you look tired. People actually don’t care! People want to learn from you, so teach them! Focus on the viewer NOT on yourself!

Finish with a call to action
Finally, always finish with a direct call to action. Whether it’s a to follow a link in your bio, to swipe up, or to drop you a DM, give your viewers a direction to follow.
And there you have it, 6 great things to incorporate into your next IG story.!
