Tips For Being Productive On Your Period

If you, like me, are a person who bleeds, and if you (like me) can get pretty knocked back by your period, then you know that getting out of bed or off the sofa can be the last thing you want or can do. Our cycles can have massive sways over how we feel both physically and mentally, so here are some tips for being staying on top of your work and maintaining productivity (or not!) while you are on your period - Entrepreneur Edition!

Be sure to also check out this week’s podcast where I speak to period care brand Ohne founders, Nikki & Leah, about understanding your cycle and the different ways you can take control of your period and health (and so, so, so much more)!

Be gentle

Trying to concentrate - or lets face it even sit up at times - can be incredibly difficult around our periods. Be it cramps, achy hips and legs, hormones and/or mood, I really want to stress that this is not to make anyone feel guilty about (not) being productive when bleeding. It you want to take time off during your period, please do it. Accept it. Lean into it. You can plan with it all in mind and make it work for you. At the end of the day, it is your work, your body, and your cycle.

For such a long time my period was something that god forbid would stop me from working - at least performatively in front of classmates or co-workers. But we can work beautifully with our cycles. So my first and foremost tip is to be gentle with yourself. Do not feel guilty if you simply don’t want to be productive. Bleeding is more than a valid enough reason to take some time and making peace with rest can actually boost your productivity.

Get a hot water bottle

I absolutely swear by my hot water bottle. It doesn’t leave me when I’m cramping and just feeling achy. Tuck in into your trousers , let the heat give you a big hug and ease the pain.

Plan you social media ahead of time

Here it really helps to get to know you cycle and how it affects your mood, energy, and hormone levels. When you are on your period all of your hormones of at their lowest levels, meaning that it’s not going to be the best time to be taking action and being creative. So by planning ahead, and using a scheduling your content using an app such as Planoly, means that ultimately you can take you foot off the peddle.

Explore different ways of relieving symptoms

There are increasingly more varied and holistic products available that offer different ways of managing and relieving symptoms. We all have different cycles, bleeds and needs, so take some time to research what’s out there and find what works for you. I absolutely love CBD oil. Some you can ingest, others you can use as a topical oil, and you can always put a few drops in a bath or on a tampon for some pain relief!

My absolute favourite CBD oils are made by the incredible Ohne. If you’d like to try them use this code for a 20% discount. CBD20!

Swap coffee for tea

It’s chamomile tea for me. Its softer, soothing, warm, and easy to drink.
Ginger tea is also great, as well as peppermint and fennel teas.

Wear comfy clothes

Just get comfy. Just do it.
